In May 2025, I traveled to Peru. It is a very diverse country, with nice people, great food and rich history. Machu Picchu is recognized as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Monument Valley

In May 2024, I drove 4000 miles from Las Vegas, Nevada, to San Francisco, California. Along the way, I visited several national parks. My favourite? Monument Valley Navajo Tribal on the border between Arizona and Utah.

The Largest Falls in the World

Ever since I watched the Mission (1986) movie, I wished to visit the magnificent Iguazu Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina. The other day I attended a soccer match between Brazil and Argentina in the Maracanã stadium. Two dream came true in two days 🙂

The Big Apple

I visited New York for the first time in 2001, just a couple of months before the infamous terrorist attacks. 22 years later I returned to work there at the Czech Consulate and to discover this vibrant and fascinating city even deeper.

Diplomatic Victories

The Central European Diplomatic Cup is an annual football competition for diplomats from Czechia, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Germany and Austria. The 2018 tournament was hosted in Berlin. For the first time, the Czech team won gold medals. I did not score but was part of the victorious team.

On Top of Europe

During meteorological inversion there is only dusk, fog and grey clouds at lower altitutes. To see the sun you have to climb as high as possible. The climb to the top of the Jura Mountains was not easy but we got rewarded with a splendid panorama of the Alps.

Inescapable Trilemma

Professor Rodrik desribed the “inescapable trilemma of the world economy”. Democracy, national sovereignty and global economic integration are incompatible, he says. You can combine any two of those elements, but not have all three simultaneously.

Limits to Growth

Can the economy grow indefinitely or does economic growth actually have natural limits? Some scientists predict that we might be approaching the turn in global consumption.

Urban and Rural Population

Ever since its origin,  human society has been predominantly rural. In 2010, the number of people living in urban areas (3.5 billion) has surpassed the number living in rural areas.
